You have to the bushings to move a little bit by prying withĪ long screw driver as mentioned. When the bolts are removed it won't just drop out. Spray a little Liquid wrench on the bushings. Sliding brass bushings that actually apply pressure to theĪlt bracket. I would only add that on #10 a little liquid wrench helps to get the Too bad no pics, but you pretty much covered everything and all the things,Īnd old hack like me considers as 'gimme's, like disconnecting the battery. Turn back on and error should be gone and you then should pat yourself on the back for saving yourself hundreds of dollars. Turn steering wheel all the way to the left and then back to the right and then turn off engine. Stability program not available error, or something like that. When you start your car you will get Elec. Go back and do everything in reverse and you are done.ġ6. I found that the plug that went to the back of my alternator was actually rubbing on the pulley up above and exposed the wire and was probably shorting out and giving me my problem to begin with.ġ5. I slid my new alternator into place with ease.ġ4. You don't have to do this, but I have found after fighting many things into place over the years that a little filing goes a long ways.ġ3. You don't want shavings in the alternator. ![]() Make sure that you file so that the shavings fall away from the alternator. When installing the new alternator I used a file and gently filed the new alternator where it would be sliding into the brackets on each end. Lower the alternator down and out by tilting the front of the alternator down and working it out.ġ2. ![]() Then it is just a matter of working it back and forth to get the passenger side to come free.ġ1. Just gently put it in there and apply downward pressure and it will swing down. I used a 24" long slotted screwdriver to gently pry the alternator down out of it's brackets from going in from the driver's side bracket. Very easy job to ratchet out the bolts after this.ġ0. This gave me the extra length I needed to get around the hose that was in the way. So I used a 1/2 “ ratchet with a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter on the end of my 3/8" 3 inch extension. There is a radiator hose in the way of the right bolt. I used a 3/8” ratchet with 16mm and a 3 inch extension to ratchet it out. For the bolt on the left, closest to driver. You will need a 16mm socket and about a 3 inch extension to get the alternator bolts out. Unplug the plug on the back of alternator.ĩ. There might be a plastic cap over the top of the bolt, just pry it off with a flat screwdriver. You will need a 13mm socket/wrench to undo the lead on the back of alternator. You will need it out of the way to get your alternator out.Ĩ. It pushes out of place and back into place with ease. Just push it aft, or towards the back of the car when you have the bolts removed. Don’t worry about anything flying off when you get them out. Next undo the two long screws that hold the sway bar in place directly underneath where the alternator goes. Remove panel and say hello to your alternator.ħ. There are 6 screws that hold it in place. Go under the car and remove the front skid plate, or panel that is underneath. You don’t have to pull it out, just take it off the big pulley in front so you can get it off alternator.Ħ. Apply counter-clockwise torque on this torx head and it will loosen tension on the belt, remove the belt. Take a picture if need be to ease fears later. Take the appropriate Torx socket and place it on the exposed torx head to the left of the engine, this is the tensioner for the belt to the alternator. On the front of the air box there is a hose that attaches by way of a little sliding bracket that you will rotate counterclockwise and it will release the hose.ĥ. There is a clamp to the left that needs to be loosened and then to the right you will see one screw that holds the right side of the box to another hose that goes to the back of the engine. Remove the air box in the front of the engine. It is long enough to hook around the hood bracket and hold it out of the way.Ĥ. I disconnected the negative cable from the battery so that I can pull the cable away and not worry about it accidentally touching. This will give you access to the battery.ģ. Remove the filter box over the battery by undoing the three clips and lifting out. I jacked mine up and slid my ramps under the front tires to support the car without worries.Ģ.
